S.M.A.R.T. Goal: Improving my physical health

Yesterday, I committed to my first goal of improving my physical health by starting a daily exercise regimen.

There’s a S.M.A.R.T. way to write goals and objectives.

Ideally speaking, each goal should be:

  • Specific – target a specific area for improvement.
  • Measurable – quantify or at least suggest an indicator of progress.
  • Assignable – specify who will do it.
  • Realistic – state what results can realistically be achieved, given available resources.
  • Time-related – specify when the result(s) can be achieved.

Here’s my goal as a set of S.M.A.R.T goals.

  • I will track what I eat and drink using Lose It.
  • I will keep my daily calorie count at 1,700 calories or below.
  • I will walk 30 minutes for at least 5 mornings every week.
  • I will walk 30 minutes for at least 5 evening every week.
  • I will walk 10,000 steps a day for at least 5 days a week.
  • I will lose at least 1 pound every week between now and May 1st 2018.
  • I will get down to less than 10% body fat between now and May 1st 2018.
  • I will lose 20 pounds by May 1st 2018.
  • I will read The 4 Hour Body by Tim Ferris by the January 31st, 2018.
  • I will share my progress at least once a week.
  • I purchased a NordicTrack C 12.9 Elliptical machine to help with all the above.

I’m pretty happy with those, now it’s time to walk the walk…

The Wheel of Life

I’m a big fan of Dave Ramsey and his company. Dave is a big fan of Zig Ziglar’s “The Wheel of Life“. Great tool for managing your goals in life.

The Wheel of Life has seven spokes, and each spoke a core area of life.

Here they are:

  • Intellectual
  • Spiritual
  • Physical
  • Family
  • Financial
  • Social
  • Career

I want to use this blog as a tool, together with The Wheel of Life to make sure I always happen to my life, instead of letting my life happen to me.

My first goal is to improve my physical health by starting a daily exercise regimen.
